HISTORY

In the late 1800s and betimes 1900s, a number of wood mills in Tennessee began logging the close's red cedar trees and shipping "slats" to graphite pencil factories. As more industries in the mid-majestic area sprang up, manufacturers saw the benefit of establishing submit to operations near the mills and the area in the last became known as the pencil manufacturing capital of the Concerted States.

Among the businesses benefiting from this growing perseverance was a Lewisburg wood mill established in 1910. It became the Red Cedar Pencil Visitors.
